Jerry Garcia Band has the following taping and trading policy:

The Grateful Dead and our managing organizations have long encouraged the purely non-commercial exchange of music taped at our concerts and those of our individual members. That a new medium of distribution has arisen - digital audio files being traded over the Internet - does not change our policy in this regard. Our stipulations regarding digital distribution are merely extensions of those long-standing principles and they are as follow:

No commercial gain may be sought by websites offering digital files of our music, whether through advertising, exploiting databases compiled from their traffic, or any other means.
All participants in such digital exchange acknowledge and respect the copyrights of the performers, writers and publishers of the music.
This notice should be clearly posted on all sites engaged in this activity.
We reserve the ability to withdraw our sanction of non-commercial digital music should circumstances arise that compromise our ability to protect and steward the integrity of our work.

there has got to be more to it than a simple "not contacted"

Back in '97, in a FAQ about why the Dead Hour doesn't play more JGB, David "The Butcher of So Many Roads" Gans wrote:

Jerry Garcia Band never allowed taping of shows (well, not for at least
the last ten years or so), and I have never been able to get permission
to play their tapes on the air. Once in a while I have played an older
tape that I got from a collector, but it's been unofficial. These days,
I'm less inclined to press my luck. Garcia's solo work is controlled by
his estate.

I doubt very much if we'll see JGB participate in Archive. "The estate" is pretty tight about these tapes.

I thought I'd follow up on this thread since so many people, including myself have asked wheres the JGB. On Garcias website I saw that they are now selling archive releases of select JGB shows. I doubt they will allow the archive to host any. Maybe someday...

This is the difference between bands that made music to make music, for thier own and other peoples enjoyment, and thier descendants who are money hungry for cash they did absolutely nothing to earn.
JGB allowed Aud Recordings until the end of the bands career with Jerry at very least. Itsa shame that all the largest bands are not supporting the archive, instead only looking to further line thier already gorged pockets.
